Call of Duty: Black Ops is the tenth release of the CoD franchise. It was launched after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and it is the sequel to Call of Duty: World at War. This installment was developed by Treyarch and released by Activision. This title introduces for the first time characters such as Mason, Woods and Hudson, who are also slated to appear in the next installment of the Black Ops saga. This game is set in the Cold War and tells the story of Alex Mason, a captain of the SOG who is attempting to eliminate Fidel Castro, when tricked becomes a prisoner of war. The storyline is focused on memories and flashbacks of Mason and Hudson, extracted several years after the events.

This first-person shooter keeps the essence of the franchise's previous games, with the emphasis on solving missions in order to advance in the plot. Call of Duty: Black Ops has beaten the sales record of its predecessor, selling 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games in Europe, the USA and the UK. One of the most interesting things about this videogame is the cast of voice actors, with Sam Worthington as Alex Mason, Ed Harris as Jason Hudson and the reknowned actor Gary Oldman as Viktor Reznof.

Game Modes and Gameplay

This game has three main modes, the campaign, the multiplayer modes, and the Co-op Zombies mode. As mentioned, you will play as various characters to complete the campaign. They will be agents who will carry out classified, covert operations. Each mission will have a series of objectives to achieve. Allied forces will accompany you during the missions, providing defensive fire in battles. Besides, you will be able to pilot vehicles like a Hind Helicopter, a Bell UH-1 or even a SR-71 Blackbird. Here, you can enjoy trying out Bullet Time - a scripted cinematic moment in which time slows down while you perform a sequence of commands.

The Multiplayer mode has several modes you can play online with friends or other online users. There are 14 maps in which you can play each mode, excluding the additional maps available to download. Modes such as Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch or Free For All can be played. The main objective here is to gain experience and prestige points. In-game CoD points will enable you to purchase perks, attachments, equipment or new customization options. There are new Killstreaks like Napalm Strikes, controllable Helicopters or a remote-controlled explosive car, the RC Car.

Zombies mode comes from the popular World at War, and in this release you can play this cooperative mode with up to 3 players. You will fight the undeads with numerous weapons and a superb arsenal. In this fast-paced mode, you´ll have to survive zombie hordes in a closed scenario in which the mankind is almost extinguished. At first you will find that zombies are slow and clumsy, but level by level they become stronger and faster. You will get points by eliminating zombies or closing windows with wood planks. Each zombie you eliminate will give you different points, depending on how have you destroyed it. Headshots give more points than other ways of extermination. In addition, you will receive weapons from the Mystery Box. This box has fantastic weaponry within, but it will appear only randomly. Once you open the Mystery Box, almost anything can appear, from a simple knife to a Laser gun. However, beware with Samantha's teddy bear - once it appears, the box disappears.

The appearance of each undead is not too realistic, but they are dangerous, we assure you. If you are able to get to the Level 50 zombie gauntlet, you will face the ultimate challenge. This mode can be single-player or cooperative, and played online or offline. Zombies mode comes with 3 default maps, Kino der Toten, a forgotten Nazi theater, Five, set in the Pentagon, and Dead Ops Arcade, in several places such as an island, or a tropical forest.
