On the continent of Liberia, an evil empire worshiper of a dark god has already ended with another kingdom. Although Runan, the prince of Razelia, and Holmes, and both of them with a small group of their allies manage to escape to other places, these parts are also taken by the Empire, so both must search a way to defeat them.

But speaking more about its development, during the development of Thracia 776, Shouzo Kaga, the maximum responsible of Fire Emblem (and that worked in all, until Thracia 776) left Intelligent Systems, to form his own company, Tirnanog Co. Here he worked in the developing of a game called, Emblem Saga.

However, Nintendo charged Tirnanog Co. and Enterbrain (distributor of Emblem saga), to not distribute and selling it, and pay 258.3 millions yens, about 2 millions dollars. Because Emblem Saga, which is the original name to Tear Ring Saga a month before its release, was too similar to Fire Emblem, even more they did use theirs name to made know (some people and internet magazines thought its was a FE sequel). But after several lawsuits they continued selling the game (but still have to pay 76 millon yen), even has a four volumes novel, soundtrack and a continuation (Berwick Saga). Not because is a copy is bad, It has a fairly long history, or even more could be said. Also has a system similar to Fire Emblem Gaiden, and even has a four multiplayer mode where you play with the characters from your file.

• Game's introduction (the game use a bit of engrish english, so I left it untouched):
'Once upon a time in the reign of Dark Load, there was a warrior in slavery.
Leading folks seeking for freedom, the warrior fought against Gerxel, the Evil Dark Load.
Furious flame of Evil Deity burned folks into despair.
Brave warrior fought with all his might, but was about to be burned in the evil flame.
He prayed God for power, glowing power to destroy evil darkness.
At that moment, a sacred Goddess following a white dragon extinguished the flame of Evil Deity.
The smiling sacred told, 'Thou, the brave, the beauty. Thou have this sword to concur Evil, to accomplish my will.'
Utra was the name of her sacred, being the daughter of Mother earth Miradona, and was a small Goddess of giant dragons.
The brave warrior, got the love of her sacred, defeated the Dark Load. The brave became a king, and led his land to an eternal prosperity.
The body of the brave is buried in piece, now with his fellow colleagues.
But, his profound love for the freedom, never perished from his realm.'
