Part 1. About Recovery

Following up with the previous successful album Relapse, Recovery was originally planned to be released as Relapse 2. However, when Eminem recording the album, he found that the album is quite different form Relapse, so he renamed the project to what we have known as Recovery.
Compares to his previous work, Recovery is more personal and emotionally driven. As you can listen from 'Going Through Changes', it is a song depicting Eminem's struggles and confusion about being trapped in fame. Songs like 'Not Afraid' focuses on his personal changes. And the International hits 'Love the Way You Lie' shows his grief and regret. According to Recovery's inner note, the album was dedicated to anyone who is in a dark place trying to get out.
Recovery not only displays Eminem's brilliant lyrical ability, but also shows a more mature, more tolerant Eminem, which gains generally positive reviews from critics. According to Jody Rosen from Rolling Stone, he called it Eminem's 'most casual-sounding album in years' and gave a four-star rating. And Sam Wolfson of NME called him 'self aware, technically advanced, intelligent, able to go at speeds other than full throttle.', rating the album 7 out of 10.
However, Recovery also received some negative reviews. In a largely negative review, Pitchfork only gave it 2.8 out of 10, viewing the album devoid of noticeable joy, or wit.
Still, Recovery was a commercial success. It debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 Chart, which also became Eminem's sixth studio album to debut at No. 1 in the US. By the end of its release year (2010), Recovery has sold over 5.7 million copies world wide, and it was ranked as the 93rd best album of all time on the Billboard Top 200 Albums of All Time in 2015.
Besides, at the 53rd Grammy Awards, Recovery was nominated for Album of the Year, and Record of the Year and won Best Rap Album in 2011.
